Stepping Stones

Stepping Stones was the Scottish component of the four sovereign hunts released in August 2001 and was written by our former puzzle master and then newsletter bulletin board editor, Charles Cunningham.

The story's character revisits a childhood destination where 10 stepping stones cross a small river. Legend says that anyone who can cross the stones blindfolded, without getting wet, will be rewarded with treasure. The story recounts a strange encounter with a large white cat who attempted to claim the prize.

This hunt outlasted all the other hunts in the series by some margin. It was almost three and a half years after publication – January 2005 – when former club member John Lee uncovered the sovereign in Douglas Water, Lanarkshire.

Members can follow the discussion of this hunt on our bulletin board.
